Stylish new space for leading lead generation consultancy, Glenigan.

Glenigan, part of Emap Ltd is the trusted provider of top-notch construction project sales leads, industry data, analysis, forecasting and company intelligence. So with all that number crunching and analysis going on a daily basis, Glenigan were after a design that would transform their 10,000 sqft space into a place where their team could feel calm, motivated, yet inspired.

Before we put our designer thinking caps on, we needed to get under the skin of the Glenigan team and through in-depth interviews, we gained an understanding of how they work in order to design a space that would motivate them to perform brilliantly at work.

As part of our ‘honest design’ approach we collaborated closely with Incentive FM so together we could recommend the ‘right’ suppliers for the furniture and build elements to Glenigan/Emap. The competition was tough, but through this invaluable tendering process, Overbury were awarded the contract to manage Glenigan’s office fit-out.

Being aware of Glenigan’s work within the Built Environment we were keen to demonstrate a good use of environmentally delicious materials and suppliers. The seamless carpet was by Interface Flor, stylish furniture including the beautiful bespoke board room table we sourced by EKO. This procurement process ended up saving Glenigan some serious coinage!

Working with some of the best suppliers in the industry and with a client that truly valued the importance of a well designed working environment to enhance the wellbeing of their staff; is for us, a real pleasure and we’re chuffed to bits with the result.

One lump or two? Tasty tea bar design for Whittard of Chelsea

Across the pond in Minneapolis, USA - Whittard of Chelsea wanted a concept and detailed design solution for a ‘tea bar’ to echo the success of Starbuck’s coffee bars. Responding to a growth in consumer demand and the opportunity to work with Marshall Fields’, a national department store chain in the United States, the concept centred around the desire to excite the customer about the process of making and drinking tea.

A dedicated area next to the till invited customers to smell the different teas before they bought a drink. The mix of traditional design elements, such as, tongue and board panelling and oak veneer surface finishes along with bold contemporary design resulted in a functional, modestly styled space which honestly reflects its purpose. Always great to see a touch of Britishness being enjoyed by shoppers abroad.

A space that allowed creativity to flow

Jellyfish are a BAFTA award winning independent visual effects, animation and motion graphics studio based in Noho, Central London. They are at the forefront of technology, working with the BBC, Channel 4 and 5, Walt Disney and many movie and TV production companies.

They believe in providing an open and friendly environment to help nurture an extremely productive relationship with their clients which has made a significant contribution to the number of highly acclaimed, award-winning projects. Their new workspace needed to enhance this philosophy.

The workspace they were moving into was at a premium within their 4th floor space. With 24 staff, an editing suite, meeting room, flexible tea point and management team area. Jellyfish needed the design to be pragmatic, functional but creative.

The final solution is a pure white and blue modernist interpretation, simple, modest and true to purpose. The companies awards are displayed within a see through glass panel on glazed shelves opposite the entrance doors. Making the perfect first impression.

"Burtt-Jones &#38; Brewer approached the project in a way that we found unique, by discovering ideas through a process of challenging the use of space and opinion."
Phil Dobree, Joint founder of Jellyfish Pictures

One of the oldest Swiss banks, gets the royal treatment

Mirabaud is one of Switzerland's oldest banks and provides financial services geared to clients who seek a personalised relationship, high-quality services and maximum performance - providing a 'savoir-vivre' for the private banker.

So when they approached us to refurbish their 20,000 sq ft workspace in a landmark building next to Buckingham Palace; we new had to deliver something extra special, after all, the Queen could pay them a visit one day!

The project demanded a skilled and highly tailored approach to re-furbishing the large floor plate. From the high profile meeting suite and reception area, to the re-engineering of the layout to suit the needs of Mirabaud, this technically demanding project was delivered against punishing deadlines.

An accelerated design programme devised by Burtt-Jones &#38; Brewer, meant that we delivered a unique, finely detailed workspace solution. Using 3D visuals and photo realistic ideas were rapidly developed to provide confidence in the final solution.

A perfect blend of old meets sustainability new

Culpeper is the oldest collection of herbal shops in England and one of the most highly respected suppliers of natural well-being products.

Taking a leap forward in terms of aesthetics, the brief for the new concept store was to hold onto their heritage but at the same time offer a look and feel that would leapfrog past Culpeper’s competition. Blending old and new, environmentally, locally sourced products were at the forefront of our concepts -along with the new shopping concept ‘less is more‘.

The space was laid out so that existing Culpeper customers would still be able find what they were looking for, yet able to discover new products in an uncluttered environment. The movable, re-merchandising shelving units that would become known as ’Tetris’ were developed as part of the interior re-branding process, a step into the next generation stores for Culpeper was taken.

"After an overwhelmingly positive reaction from the Culpeper team, Burtt-Jones &#38; Brewer were appointed to the project, and were given complete creative freedom with the design concept. We will not hesitate in engaging Adam and Steve to work in re-fitting existing shop units as well as working on delivering a modest opening programme over the next couple of years."
Brian Hay, former Managing Director - Culpeper

Specialized is one of the leading, most innovative bike companies in the world.

And they were after an exceptional interior solution at their HQ office in Chessington, one that would exceed their enviable market position. The brief was demanding but full of opportunity. With the need to house over 120 bikes, a 60 person meeting suite and strong emphasis on big creative ideas.

Walking through the entrance doors, five glass panels are lined up at angles at the entrance, with bikes invisibly supported in front of full height feature graphics, creating a dynamic introduction. The walkway then curves, slowly revealing the showroom, enticing the visitor in. A central podium is fixed in the middle of the showroom space, with a plasma presentation screen, allowing a full width view of all the bikes and views back into the new workshops.

Specialized might produce some of the most sexiest bikes in the world but they now have a showroom that truly shows them off in all their glory.

<description>The Interior Design world, (especially in the commercial sector) can at times appear quite complicated. Especially when there can be so many different people involved. From property agents, architects, mechanical engineers, facility managers, marketing managers, branding specialists, build contractors and not forgetting the interior design team. It's any wonder some companies take a deep breath when even starting to think about what to do with their interior space.

We feel very strongly about demystifying this entire process and instead, when you're looking to re-shape a space we'll encourage you to take on board all the psychological, spatial and subjective factors that can influence interior design decisions – not simply material and furniture specifications.

We also offer procurement advice through our years of experience within this industry. Through our approach we help you understand the true scope and potential cost of your project, which will often indicate where you can make significant savings. At the same time, creating a fantastic new environment.

Our proven strategic methodology - the 'Honest Design' approach is where we engage and partner with you to discover, interpret, create and design your new space:

Using industry leading software coupled with old fashioned sketches, we generate the look and feel of your new space, exploring layouts in 2D and 3D, using finishes and textures to build your new world.

From working drawings, to attendance at site meetings, we support you throughout the implementation and construction phase. Consulting with Project Managers, Cost Consultants and Contractors to make sure the new space is delivered on message.

The brief was simple - to have the best meeting suite in London.

When moving from their existing property to that of their parent company - SEB merchant bank Enskilda, (the private banking wing of SEB), required an impressive meeting suite to replace their existing one.

The client demanded the wow factor, a space to evoke and show parentage to the Scandinavian roots of the business. This was achieved through the use of timber floors, white walls and rugs. The space needed to be discreet and have integrated seamless, cutting edge technology. To create a modern, calming interior space suitable for meeting high profile clients and to create a quiet, restful waiting space, a sanctuary in the city.

A Swedish artist called Sigrid Holmwood, was commissioned to create a backdrop for the angled glass screens, bringing a piece of the natural environment into the centre of the banking world.

"From the initial pitch for the creative design to our new 5th floor meeting suite, Burtt-Jones &#38; Brewer have consistently delivered intelligently designed and considered spaces for SEB. The design for the 5th floor meeting suite has been widely acclaimed within the business.

The idea that made us pay attention, capturing light from the un-used skylights above, ensured us we had chosen someone that understood what we were trying to achieve. Equally, they also designed the new workspace for Key Asset Management on the Lower Ground Floor.

Again, the design and ideas were a cut above the rest of the schemes presented to us, demonstrating his understanding of our business and the demands Key had on the space. I would not hesitate to recommend Burtt-Jones &#38; Brewer to anyone wishing to engage with a creative and honest design team."
